Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara Review
Looking for a new clean beauty mascara? Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara might be what you’ve been looking for.
As a clean beauty makeup enthusiast, I am always looking for new products that are respectful of the environment and that perform well. I’ve had an eye on Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara ever since I tried some of their products last year.
When it comes to makeup, mascara is one of my absolute staples. I don’t wear much makeup and I try to keep it as simple as possible, but mascara is that one product that makes me instantly look (and feel) better. So, I am always looking for new and respectful formulas.
Even though this mascara is not new on the market, I’ve only recently decided to give it a try. Without further ado, here’s my review on Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara.
What does the brand say about it?
According to the Milk Makeup website, the Kush High Volume Mascara has unique heart-shaped fibers that lock onto lashes for a long-lasting volume. It has hemp-derived cannabis seed oil to help condition lashes and it fuses with the heart-shaped fibers to lashes for thickness without fallout. It leaves lashes soft, not crunchy or stiff. Making it easy to remove.
Also, the tree-shaped Puff Puff Brush criss-cross medium-firm bristles catch and coat every single lash in intense black mineral pigment for a defined and clump-free effect. At last but not least, the clean vegan and cruelty-free formula have an intense black color. It claims that 95% of people immediately saw high volume and longer lashes. While 90% of people immediately saw thicker and lifted lashes.
Why has this product caught my attention?
I would say it’s the formula. This was probably the first good-for-you mascara formula getting a spot at Sephora’s physical store. And if I have to pick a second reason, I would say the format. It is always available in a travel-size and full-size version.
My first impressions
First things first: the brush is unlike any other I’ve tried before. It looks bushy, like the top of a tree. And the bristles are closed together. Besides the thickness (and fluffiness) of the brush, I’ve immediately noticed how easy it was to apply and comb the eyelashes.
I’ve also noticed that my lashes looked bigger and lifted, right after applying the first coat. This was quite surprising, as I was used to applying several coats (with other mascaras) to get a more intense impact.
It all seemed great, but after a couple of hours, I looked like a raccoon. As the mascara smudged in my under-eye area. And I have been working from home the entire day, so I haven’t been exposed to sunlight, heat, or the moisture from the face mask.
Needless to say that I felt disappointed. But a few days later, I’ve decided to give it another ago.
Giving it a second chance
If you use mascara regularly, you might have already noticed that the formula drys out a little bit after opening the mascara tube for the first time. Making the product slightly denser, easier to apply, and less likely to smudge.
So, I decided to give this mascara another chance about a week later after trying it for the first time.
It was equally easy to apply. I’ve noticed the volume and more defined lashes, right after applying the first coat. Clump-free lashes and without any lumps. Well, nothing new here.
The main difference came a few hours after: it was smudge-free. Yay!
Here’s the lesson: if you don’t like a certain mascara when you try it for the first time, don’t ditch it immediately. Wait for a couple of days and give it another try. Keep trying it on and off for about a month. If it still doesn’t do wonders for you after this period, then it’s time to let it go.
My verdict
Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara is without any doubt a really good mascara. My only regret is that I haven’t tried it earlier, as I like it much better than my beloved Essence HELLO, GOOD STUFF! Volume Mascara. Especially because I can add more volume to my lashes, without having these look clumped.
I am particularly a fan of the tree-shaped brush, as it makes it very easy to comb my brushes without adding more product than needed. Oh, talking about the formula… I believe this is the blackest black formula I’ve ever tried.
But I’ll have to disagree with Milk Makeup when they say that this mascara is easy to remove. Well, not exactly. While most of my Essence mascara comes off in one go, using the Flor de Mayo makeup remover balm or Simple biodegradable makeup remover wipes, removing Milk Makeup mascara is quite tricky.
Pros: Long perfectly combed lashes without any lumps or clumps. The volume lasts for hours.
Cons: How hard it is to remove it and how smudgy the formula can be when you start using it.
Would I recommend it?
Oh, absolutely. If you’re looking for a mid-range natural volumizing mascara that does the trick, then look no further. I would recommend you to start with the travel-size one and see how it works for you. Also, mascara is that one makeup item that needs to be replaced more often - if you want to avoid possible eye infections.
