Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Review
The Burt’s Bees Lip Balm is the most iconic product of this renowned natural beauty brand, but are these as good as they sound? Don’t miss the review comparing three different Burt’s Bees Lip Balms.
Even though is not my first experience trying Burt’s Bees products for The Sustainablist, it’s my first time trying different products within the same range: lip balms.
How it all started? A few months ago, I’ve tried Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm and I was so surprised by how it moisturized my lips, that I thought I should try some untinted versions of the same product.
Especially because I have been feeling my lips particularly dry this summer (damned you, Madrid weather). Also, I’ve purchased some other clean-beauty lip balms that turned out to be a complete waste of money. Which is something I am trying to avoid this year, both for environmental and financial reasons.
What should you know about Burt’s Bees? It’s a brand whose products are created with natural ingredients (they don’t use petrolatum or parabens), to nurture and enhance our skin. All their products are cruelty-free.
Here’s my Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Review
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm
This isn’t the first time that I talk about this product here, but given that this is a Burt’s Bees lip balm review… I just couldn’t leave it behind.
Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm is one of those gems that add a hint of color to your lips, while properly taking care of these at the same time. Perfect for when you have an unexpected important event or just don’t feel like using lipstick. It already saved me last year, when I had to shoot a video while I was away from home and had no lipstick (or any other makeup item) with me.
This lip balm is really easy to apply and it feels super comfortable on the lips. Also, the color is buildable, so if you’re looking for something slightly more intense… just apply a few extra coats. Plus, there are several shades available.
What do I like the most about this product? It’s texture. Out of the Burt’s Bees lip balms reviewed here, this is the smoothest and the most comfortable to apply. It’s also the most hydrating formula out of the three, leaving my lips moisturized for a longer period.
My verdict: 9/10
Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
Here’s the most iconic and classic of the list. Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm is an absolute classic and I was really curious to try it.
Has it performed exactly as I expected it to? Well, no. I was expecting something similar to the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, only without the tint. I was looking for something with the same smooth formula, that would leave my lips properly hydrated for hours. Especially for those days when my lips were a little more sensitive and I didn’t feel like adding a touch of color.
Which wasn’t exactly the case. Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm has a slightly denser formula and doesn’t slide so smoothly when applying it on my lips - probably because of the beeswax. However, it sure does make my lips feel hydrated and fresh after the application (thanks to the peppermint in its formula).
If I haven’t had a previous positive experience with another lip balm from the same brand, this would have become an absolute favorite in no time. Now, it’s just my second favorite clean-beauty lip balm ever. Which is perfectly fine. After using it for a few days, I can tell that the formula softens up. But still, not exactly the same texture as the tinted lip balm.
Would I repurchase it? Oh, absolutely. Even though it hasn’t met my high expectations (I really enjoyed the tinted lip balm), this is a really good nasty-free lip balm, and these are particularly hard to find.
Would I recommend it? Yes, I would. If you’re looking for a clear lip balm, made with good-for-you ingredients, on a budget, that keeps your lips hydrated and that you can easily apply on the go… look no further.
My verdict: 8/10
Burt’s Bees Honey Moisturizing Lip Balm
OK, let me be honest. If my expectations were high regarding the Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, they were even higher when it comes to this Burt’s Bees Honey Moisturizing Lip Balm.
Needless to say that I was imagining that exact same texture from the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, only clear and with a hint of honey. Unfortunately, this lip balm texture is far from what I have imagined.
It resembles the Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, only a bit drier. Making it slightly harder to apply. Also, my lips haven’t felt as hydrated as with the previous formulas. Which is a shame, because it smells lovely (a honey-caramel scent).
Would I repurchase it? Well, no. Not because it is a bad lip balm, by any means. It’s just given my current situation (really dry lips), I prefer other Burt’s Bees lip balms.
Would I recommend it? Err, I have a hard time recommending something that I haven’t really liked. But we are all different, and something that hasn’t worked for me might do wonders for you (and vice versa). So, if you’re not seeking something super hydrating… maybe it might do your cut.
My verdict: 6/10
Final Thoughts
It was fun testing some of the versions of Burt’s Bees bestselling product and eye-opening at the same time. Just because a product falls into a certain range, it doesn’t necessarily mean it has to have the same performance as its fellow products.
Out of these three, the tinted version remains my favorite. However, for those days that my lips are screaming for some extra hydration… I would go with a fine coat of Burt’s Bees Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment, instead. It does wonders for me, and applying a thin layer is more than enough to leave my lips looking healthier and juicier.
