Where can you buy clean beauty brands if you live in Spain?

Where can you buy clean beauty brands if you live in Spain?

Last update: October 19th, 2021

Beauty products made with natural ingredients and sustainably sourced. Formulas that aren’t just good for you, but also for the planet. That’s what clean beauty is all about. Even though it’s not mainstream yet, clean beauty is here to stay.

Every time we make a purchase we are casting a vote. We are saying “I like what you’re doing, so take my money”. But are we really OK with what’s behind most purchases we make? Do these match our personal values and what’s deeply important to us? Probably not!

During the past couple of years, I’ve become more conscious of what I buy. Materials, ingredients, the brand’s mission, and values… Besides the huge effort, and all the research, I still have a long road ahead. Because sometimes marketing plays its tricks and you find out that not all that glitters is good.

Why Clean Beauty?

Even though the beauty industry is regulated, you’d be shocked by the amount of not-so-good (and even harmful) ingredients that you can find. Especially when you spend some time reading the INCI - that’s right, the ingredient list that usually comes in a very tiny font on the back of the product.

If you’re thinking that this just happens with low cost and drugstore brands, I have bad news for you: even high-end and expensive brands use some not-so-good ingredients in their formulas.

Toxins and nasty ingredients are pretty common in the beauty industry these days. Besides the third-party regulation of these products, the awful truth is your beauty staples can cause you serious health problems in the long run.

That’s why it’s so important to demand more transparency. To brands and stockists. It was never this easy to approach a brand directly and to speak our mind - thanks to the Internet and, especially, social media.

Fortunately, we are not alone in this one. There are others paving the way and doing the homework, so we can have it easier. It’s the case of Think Dirty, an app where you can check if your beauty products are really that good for you. Use the search bar instead of the bar code scan if you’re not in Canada, otherwise, the app won’t be able to find the information that you’re looking for.

If you want to learn more about clean beauty and the dirty ingredients on your everyday products, I highly recommend the Low-Tox Life book. Really interesting, eye-opening, and scary - in equal parts.

Now let’s get to the part about why you came here in the first place. Where can you buy clean beauty products if you’re based in Spain?

theCosmetics

If you’re into sustainable living, you’ve probably already come across some clean beauty brands like RMS beauty or Kjaer Weis while looking for something eco-friendly-related on the internet. Only to find out, later on, that you couldn’t purchase any of these at your go-to beauty store.

Well, I have good news for you: theCosmetics has all the brands that you’ve had your eye on all this time, and even more.

RMS beauty, Kjaer Weis, Ere Pérez, Ilia Beauty, Per Purr, Antipodes, Coola… you name it!

The best part? You can book a session with their team, so they can recommend the most suitable products for your skin type or current needs.

theCosmetics was one of my biggest discoveries this year. I love the concept, the products, and how good they are when it comes to customer service. My biggest problem? I want to try pretty much everything.

Laconicum

I found out about Laconicum while talking to a friend about beauty products. And what a lovely surprise it was! This Spanish online store is an absolute treat for those who are into clean beauty, as it offers a great selection of brands and products.

Plus, its website is clean, easy to navigate and the product descriptions are perfectly curated. So we don’t have any trouble at all finding out if this product is the right one for us.

Laconicum was founded by two beauty enthusiasts and stocks brands like Aesop, Benamôr, Bloom & Blossom, and Plant Apothecary. Besides quintessential ones like ILIA, RMS Beauty, Kjaer Weis, Mimitika, or Pai Skincare.

This is a great place to discover new clean beauty brands at a reasonable price. I’ve also had a great experience while shopping on their website and my package arrived the very next day. Everything was in perfect condition and without the additional plastic wrappers.

Sephora

Whether you’re into makeup or not, there’s a big chance you’ve come across this name at some point. Yes, Sephora is huge in the skincare and makeup world - not only because of the wide array of products but the brands they sell (mid-range to high-end).

If you’ve been to Sephora España’s stores or website in the past couple of months, you’ve probably noticed the “Good For” section. A selection of products broken into three segments: “Good For You”, “Good For Better Planet” and “Good For Vegan”.

Where you can find brands like Pai Skincare, RMS Beauty, The Ordinary, Respire, Merci Handy, Youth To The People, Tarte, among many others.

It is really important that a brand with such dimension and status as Sephora, invest in clean beauty brands and gives a damn in educating their audience about its benefits. This way they’re not just attracting environmentally conscious users, but grabbing the attention of many makeup aficionados that probably wouldn’t have tried these brands if not available at Sephora. That’s a big win, considering how un-sustainable the beauty industry can be.

Yes, I know. They also want to make their way into the sustainability field and make money at the end of the day.

The best part? You can now take your empty beauty product containers (yes, even your old mascara) for recycling. Yay!

The problem? Most of these clean beauty brands are only available on Sephora’s website

The Singular Olivia

This one is one of those stores that make you feel special from the moment you enter their website (or Instagram) to the moment the product arrives at your door.

The Singular Olivia has a wonderful selection of organic and clean beauty products, no matter what your budget is. Avril, Jane Iredale, Eve Lom, Kia Charlotta, Antipodes, and Pacifica, are some of the brands you can find here.

Besides all of these brands, The Singular Olivia has its own product line: handmade soaps, solid shampoos, natural hand sanitizers, and candles.

If you’re looking for something special (for you or someone you love), this is definitely the place to go.

My personal favorites? Avril skincare products (don’t miss my review), The Singular Olivia soaps (Heidi), and candles (Hotel Saudade).

Vita33

Different than any of the stores previously mentioned, Vita33 is an online store where clean eating meets clean beauty.

MiA COSMETICS, Avril, Vera and The Birds, Mádara, and Pacifica are some of the brands you can find here.

What can I highlight about this store? It has a large product selection and really good prices. Plus, you can add some healthy munchies to your cart - WIN!

Douglas

Even though Douglas never really caught my attention as a consumer, mostly because of their branding and marketing. The truth is… I have to thank them for some of the best clean beauty purchases I’ve done this year. Like Honest Beauty’s mascara or eyeshadow palette (here’s the review).

They are the exclusive stockings of brands like Honest Beauty, Florence by Mills, and KORA Organics - for the Spanish market.

Before you leave this article and head straight to your nearest Douglas, I have to break this to you: most of the brands I’ve just mentioned aren’t available at every store they own.

So, I recommend you to call your local store and check if they stock the brand you’re looking for. As the selection varies depending on the location.

If you happen to live in Madrid, their newest store in Gran Via (close to Casa del Libro and Primark) is the most complete I have found to date. And yes, they sell Honest Beauty and Florence by Mills at this location.

Is there a place where you can find all their products? Yes, their website

Druni

On a more “on a budget” and mainstream note, there’s Druni. This drugstore is pretty easy to find throughout the country and has really good gems when it comes to organic and clean beauty.

NaoBay, Organic Shop, Cocunat, Weleda, Dr. Hauschka, The Ordinary… just to name a few.

Yes, it’s mostly skincare. But if you’re just getting started on your transition to more natural formulas and don’t know if these will work for you, I believe this is a good place to start.

My recommendation? NaoBay’s cleanser and Organic Shop’s body scrub

Do you happen to know a place that I might have missed? Feel free to get in touch with me, so I can keep this list updated and support our small community.
