Honest Beauty Review

Honest Beauty Review

Makeup products made with ingredients that aren’t harmful for your health? Ohh, the dream. And that’s what Honest Beauty is all about. Find out our insights after trying some of their makeup products.

Honest Beauty was founded by Jessica Alba in 2011. Most formulas are created in their in-door lab using clean ingredients. Not just for our skin, but also for our home and babies.

When I first heard about this brand, years and years ago, the concept immediately caught my attention. And yes, I wanted to give it a try but… I didn’t want to go through all the fuss to get these shipped all the way from the US.

So when I found out that Honest Beauty skincare and makeup line was at Douglas Spain, my eyes sparkled. In case you don’t know, I am always looking up for healthier and eco-friendly alternatives to my beauty routine. But I am also a minimalist, so I am quite picky and I do a lot of thinking (and research) before I buy any product.

Even though I wanted to lay my hands on most of Honest Beauty’s makeup line, I’ve upon the very few items that were missing in my nécessaire: eyeshadow palette, mascara and a highlighter.

Without further ado, here are my insights after putting these Honest Beauty products into test.

Honest Beauty’s Eyeshadow Palette

Honest Beauty’s Eyeshadow Palette

Get It Together Eyeshadow Palette

When I opened this palette for the first time… I felt disappointed. For two reasons: it was a bit dirty due to product fallout and the shades didn’t matched the tones I’ve seen on the brand’s website.

The shades are a bit darker than I imagined and I was afraid that the product would actually be dusty. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. Once applied, the shades weren’t dusty at all and these actually seemed lighter on my eye lid. Besides, I really enjoyed the result. Even the glitter tones look wonderful on the skin.

The purpose behind this palette is versatility. Which means creating both day and evening looks with just 10 shades. I think they’ve nailed it. However, I think it would be easier to make that transition with a different colour selection.

Besides being made of paper, the package feels quite sturdy. It also includes a relatively big mirror - which is always nice.

Even though eyeshadow palettes can be expensive, I found this one a bit pricey for what you get. I paid 30 euros for it. Unfortunately, this palette doesn’t have the same quality of a eyeshadow palette within that price range (like Urban Decay or Tarte).

What I liked the most? The clean ingredients. This palette is made without talc, parabens, paraffin, mineral oil, silicone or petrolatum. Being mica its main ingredient.

What I liked the least? The colour selection.

Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer

Mascara and primer all-in-one, with a natural formula What more could I ask for?!

I love the concept of having two products in one. However, I’ve tried applying the mascara with and without the primer. And frankly, I couldn’t tell the difference. Both in terms of feel and final result.

There was no product fallout and my lashes looked great during the day.

Have I ended up with super long lashes? Not at all. Even though the final result cannot be compared to Better Than Sex mascara from TooFaced (considered the holy grail of mascaras and is also cruelty free), I really enjoyed the length that it added to my lashes.

What I liked the most? I haven’t felt my eyes itchy. It used to happen after applying commercial and non-vegan mascaras.

What I liked the least? The fact that you shall use this mascara within 3 months after open for the first time.

Luminizing Glow Powder

This product is available in two shades. I’ve chosen the Midnight Reflection one, as the other shade was really dark for my skin.

What can I say about this highlighter? Well, it was a total miss.

I really wanted to like the product, as it have a more natural formula, but the fact is that it is really hard to notice it on your skin. No matter how much you apply.

The formula is also a bit dusty and there was some product fallout when I was applying it.

What I liked the most? The natural formula (no parabens, paraffins, talc, petrolatum, mineral oil or synthetic fragrances).

What I liked the least? That this product ended up being a total waste of money.

How do I rate it? 2/10
