My Monthly Favorite Eco-conscious Products - July 2022
From eco-conscious sunscreen to products that can be used over and over again, these were the eco-friendly products that I used the most in July 2022.
While this post may come with a massive delay, it comes packed with eco-conscious goodies and, hopefully, still in time for your Summer Trip.
I am currently on a staycation while I write this piece, sitting on my home office’s floor. As I mentioned the other day, I needed a break - from work, my mobile, people, and the “hush-hush” that I always face whenever I go back home.
Going back to what brought us here, 4/5 of the products in this piece are new finds. I’ve tried new products and loved them so much that they’re now new staples in my everyday routine.
The good part is that these are not only travel-friendly but small-sized enough so you can take these with you in your everyday handbag.
Without further ado, these were my favorite eco-conscious products in July 2022.
Drunk Elephant Slaai™ Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser
I am a big fan of cleansing balms to remove my makeup or as the first step of the double cleanse routine. So, when I discovered that Drunk Elephant had one, I knew I had to try it.
Drunk Elephant Slaai™ Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser is everything I could ask for in a cleansing balm. Rich buttery formula with a neutral scent, highly effective and easy to remove from the skin.
I got a travel-sized one from Cult Beauty, as I just wanted to give it a try without compromising spending so much money on it (32.70€ for 110 grams).
The first time I opened the jar, I was immediately surprised by its color. It has an intense yellow tone, slightly cracked on top, that reminded me of homemade butter, with a hint of melted product underneath.
Its balm and buttery texture turn into oil when it contacts the skin. It doesn’t lather as much as JUNOCO’s Cleansing Balm, but it still is relatively easy to remove from the skin without leaving a heavy or oily sensation - as it often happens with other oil-based cleansers.
Drunk Elephant’s Cleansing Balm does incredible work regarding removing makeup or denser formulas (like several layers of sunscreen), breaking these down effectively (even resistant mascaras) without spending much time massaging these areas.
I usually massage a small amount of product between the palms of my hand to warm up the formula before applying it to my face. A reusable makeup remover cloth makes the entire process easier and more pleasant. I usually damp it with lukewarm water before going through the different areas.
Out of all the cleansing balms I’ve tried this far, I’ll have to say that this one is my absolute favorite—a solid 10/10. I am also very fond of the travel-size version of this product. Besides being highly convenient, it comes with a large amount of product (you only need to use a tiny bit each time). I’ve been using it for a few months now.
Drunk Elephant Travel Duo Bars
I love keeping my skincare as convenient as possible, especially when I travel by plane. I always look up sustainable and eco-conscious liquid-free formulas as these allow me to have a hassle-free experience while going through airport security.
After hearing great reviews on Drunk Elephant’s Pekee Bar, I knew I had to try it. So, when I saw this Drunk Elephant Travel Duo Bars kit at Cult Beauty, I immediately added it to my cart. And I am happy I did!
The Pekee Bar (the white one) is our standard everyday face cleanser, while the Juju Bar is our weekly face scrub.
I’ve been using Drunk Elephant’s Pekee Bar twice a day. Having used other solid face cleansers in the past, this one surprised me with how gentle the formula felt on my skin and how clean it felt afterward - without depriving its hydration. Also, it lathers much more than many water-based cleansers I’ve tried so far.
Given its exfoliant properties, Drunk Elephant’s Juju Bar has to be used less often than the Pekee One. However, the scrubs are small and aren’t very noticeable to the touch (compared to a regular scrub or even this one from NIVEA). I could tell that my skin felt cleaner, softer, and healthy.
I enjoyed the experience I had with both bars, and I would have no doubt incorporate these into my skincare routine. I am also a fan of its convenient product. This Travel duo comes in a small waterproof pouch with a clever separation in the middle to prevent the bars from sticking to one another. This pouch is a travel pouch when closed and a soap holder when open.
I highly recommend this Travel Duo if you’re looking for a convenient yet reliable face cleanser option for your travels or if you’d like to try both products. Still, you’re not willing to purchase these individually and pay the total price.
ColourPop! Super Shock Shadow - Ladybug
Eyeshadows, especially eyeshadow palettes, is the makeup product I happily spend money on. However, most of the days, I end up doing something straightforward. And, by that, I mean applying one single eyeshadow all over the eyelid - followed by a few coats of mascara.
I am a big fan of ColourPop eyeshadows, especially their Supershock Shadow Formulas.
I particularly like its texture, as it’s something between a powder and a cream. I also love that these are super easy to apply and have a long-lasting effect, considering the price.
In July this year, I regularly used ColourPop’s Supershock Ladybug Eyeshadow. Besides being reliable and hassle-free, it looks neutral once applied to my eyelids, giving a hint of light to my eye area (despite looking pink on the pot).
If you’re looking for a reliable, super convenient, and affordable eyeshadow formula to take with you on your next trip… this is it! Feel free to browse ColourPop’s website and find the shade that suits you the most.
Revlon Oil Absorbing Volcanic Roller
I dare say that this is my most significant Discovery of the Year - so far! If you have combination skin (like I do), you probably struggle with undesired glowy skin throughout the day (and even more during the Summer).
This is something that makes me feel uncomfortable. Primarily because of how my skin feels (greasy and heavy). I usually carry blotting paper sheets in my purse or this versatile kit from Rare Beauty. But: 1) The paper sheets often get loose and dirty. 2) Rare Beauty’s kit takes up a lot of space on most of my handbags. So, when I ran into Revlon’s Oil Absorbing Volcanic Roller, I decided to give it a go.
Why? It’s super compact, fits everywhere (even in the pocket of your jeans), is reusable, and costs around 10 euros (it depends on the retailer or if there’s any discount going on).
How was my experience? It does a great job when absorbing glow and oil from the skin. It’s so convenient that you can even do it while walking, and you don’t need a compact mirror.
The best part? You can open the container, remove the volcanic ball, clean it with water and your everyday face cleanser, leave it to dry, and you’re good to go the next day!
Mádara Pro-active Sunscreen Stick SPF50
I’ve wanted to try something from Mádara for a while, but it never seemed the perfect moment. Until July this year!
Tired of getting my hands greasy after reapplying my sunscreen every two hours while running errands around town, I knew there had to be a better solution.
When I spotted Madara’s Pro-active Sunscreen Stick SPF50 at a local beauty store, I knew this was my cue—made with natural ingredients, eco-conscious, 25% off, and with a formula that I could easily re-apply on the go.
Given it’s a mineral sunscreen (the kind that usually leaves a white cast effect), Mádara added a hint of color to the formula. Just so that we don’t look like a ghost, unlike other tinted sunscreens on the market, this one doesn’t correct or even out the skin tone.
This was also my first experience with a sunscreen stick, and it was better than I initially expected. The formula is easy to apply (even if you don’t have a compact mirror). It doesn’t dry out the skin nor makes it oily (which was my primary concern, given my combination skin type).
Besides its convenient format and natural ingredients, the formula is super effective. I’ve only got a slight sunburn on the areas where I haven’t accidentally applied the sunscreen (near the hairline) or where my face mask rubbed off (my nose).
It’s also an excellent product for traveling by plane, as you don’t have to worry about if it fits into your liquid bag.
What about you? What were your favorite eco-conscious products last month?
