My Monthly Favorite Eco-conscious Products - August 2022

My Monthly Favorite Eco-conscious Products - August 2022

August is probably my least favorite month of the year. It’s scorching hot outside, and there are tourists everywhere, and (for some reason) I always end up feeling blue.

Unlike most people, I am not particularly fond of taking annual leave days in August. So, I am in that sort of limbo, waiting for the heat wave to plunge while expecting life to be resumed as soon as September arrives.

This year I had no other option than to take some vacation days in mid-august, to get some rest, which allowed me to get out of the house more often, even if it was to go to the movies, the gym, or the nearest supermarket.

Thanks to these activities, I could put a couple of products to the test and discover some new staples.

WILD Refillable Deodorant

I’ve been hearing about WILD refillable deodorants for a while now. Even though I loved the concept (minimalist refillable package, sustainable formulas with an eco-friendly approach), I’ve been postponing this purchase for over a year until I heard another trustworthy beauty YouTuber praising it.

What was keeping me off? I had to get it online and have something as ordinary as a deodorant shipped from another country.

After giving proper attention to WILD’s website and understanding the brand and its practices, I’ve realized that its sustainable mission went beyond its formulas and packing. They have partnered with ONAMISSION to make all their products carbon neutral

On your first purchase, you’ll need to pick a reusable aluminum case (available in several colors) and a deodorant scent (sensitive options available). Then, you’ll decide if this purchase is a one-off or if you’d prefer a subscription (20% discount). Feel free to add another of their products to your order (mini deodorantsdifferent scents, or soaps).

I’ve opted for a limited-time only Raspberry Riffle deodorant (sensitive), the Aqua case, and Fresh Cotton & Sea Salt Mini Deodorant.

They’re constantly launching new scents, some of these seasonal and available for a limited time only, which is a huge plus if you’re always seeking something new.

So, why is this product on my list? Besides its sustainable approach (in terms of formula, packaging, and shipping), it’s also highly effective. This is the most reliable sustainable deodorant I’ve tried so far (and I’ve tried quite a few). A solid 10/10!

Givenchy Le Rose Perfecto Lip Balm

For years, I’ve been avoiding couture-related makeup brands. Primarily because of a particular personal prejudice. Somehow, I instantly assumed that these weren’t that good and that there wasn’t any implication towards natural ingredients or the environment.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I’ve started paying close attention to Givenchy and its makeup line. And I am so glad I did.

Givenchy’s Rose Perfecto lip balm line falls into Sephora’s “Good For” product list, thanks to its 95% natural ingredients formula. I got the N001 Pink Irresistible tone, a slightly transparent light pink shade whose color comes to life when in contact with your lips PH.

What do I like the most about it? Besides the natural “your lips, but better” vibe, I love how moisturized and healthy my lips feel after applying this lipstick. I also love that; given its light tone, I can easily use it anywhere (at a restaurant or work) without needing a compact mirror.

Besides that, I particularly enjoy that this isn’t a standard tinted lip balm and that its color is bespoke - given my lips' PH.

This has been my go-to lip balm throughout August when I am out and about. I've enjoyed the experience so much that I might purchase a few more tones.

Pat McGrath Labs X Bridgerton MTHRSHP: Diamond of the First Water Eyeshadow Palette

Even though I am not a Bridgerton fan, I fell for this Pat McGrath eyeshadow palette.

Pat McGrath's eyeshadow formulas are my favorite because of their quality and uniqueness. So, when I finally had the chance to swatch it at my local Sephora store, I knew it was just a matter of time until I brought it home with me.

Pat McGrath Labs X Bridgerton MTHRSHP: Diamond of the First Water Eyeshadow Palette is a unique eyeshadow palette with an incredible six-shade selection (three mates and three shimmery).

Easy to blend and highly pigmented, I must go easy on some shades. However, unlike some eyeshadow palettes I own from Pat McGrath, the tones on this one are complementary and easy to work with.

If you've wanted to try a Pat McGrath eyeshadow palette and you happen to fancy these tones, this is a great palette to get you started. Not just because you'll be using all the pans to create a look, but because it's cheaper than most Pat McGrath eyeshadows.

Burt’s Bees Vanilla Lip Balm

I’ve already written about my experience with Burt’s Bees Lip Balms, but this one is a recent purchase. So, it’s not on the list yet (I might update that piece any time soon).

Burt’s Bees Vanilla Lip Balm was a lovely surprise, as its formula is softer and more nourishing than other Burt’s Bees formulas I’ve tried by adding instant comfort and hydration to the lips.

This one is my absolute favorite out of all the Burt’s Bees formulas I’ve tried. And one I might repurchase over and over again.

Suntique’s I’m Aqua Sun Essence

I am a bit obsessed with sunscreen these days. I use it daily, even if I am not leaving my apartment - as I work near a window.

This Summer alone, I’ve spent a hefty amount of money on sunscreens until I finally ran into one that suited my skin type needs. I have combination skin, and most sunscreen formulas tend to be a bit greasy for me.

I’ve heard excellent reviews on Suntique’s I’m Aqua Sun Essence SPF 50 for a few years until I decided to try it - and I am glad I did.

This sunscreen’s texture is so light that it feels like water once applied all over the face. And it remains comfortable throughout the hours, even if I’ve reapplied it several times throughout the day. It doesn’t leave a white cast effect nor block the pores. Plus, its formula is vegan and conscious of the reefs. A total win!
