My Monthly Favorite Eco-conscious Products - April 2022
April just came to an end, so it’s time to talk about the sustainable and conscious products that I used the most.
This month I had the chance to try new products and re-discover some products in my bathroom cupboard.
While I spent most of the time indoors (I am still working from home these days), I happened to have some social events (nothing special) that were reason enough to wear a foundation (gasp!).
Without further ado, these were my favorite conscious and sustainable products in April 2022:
Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation
After years and years of using full-cover foundations, heavy primers, and concealers that weren’t right for me, I now have a very natural and minimalist approach to makeup.
While I still have some issues with my skin, like large pores and a lot of texture (I had severe acne for years), I just started embracing the way it looks and paying attention to what it might need.
I found out Rare Beauty’s Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation last year, thanks to a friend’s recommendation, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a very light and easy to blend out formula that doesn’t accentuate my fine lines.
I use it when I want to create a “my skin but better” kind of look. This foundation helps even my skin tone and makes me look better in a heartbeat. Another thing that I love is that, given it’s lightweight, I don’t feel that I am wearing makeup throughout the day.
If you’re interested in this Rare Beauty’s foundation, feel free to read my honest review.
Drunk Elephant Protini™ Powerpeptide Line
Even though I’ve been watching YouTubers praising Drunk Elephant’s formulas for a few years now, the brand never caught my attention. One, wasn’t available in the Spanish market (where I am currently based). Two, the price tag seemed a little insane.
Long story short: Drunk Elephant became available at Sephora Spain a couple of months ago, and I made this huge mistake of testing some products in-store (and bringing a couple of samples home).
What happened afterward? My skin looked instantly better the day after applying their Protini™ Powerpeptide line (serum and moisturizer). My skin wasn’t looking as dull, and my skin tone was more even - in the different areas of my face.
So, I went to my local Sephora that same afternoon, and I purchased a mini kit with these two products and their Vitamin C eye cream.
I can’t make an individual review of Drunk Elephant’s Protini™ Powerpeptide Resurfacing Serum with Lactic Acid and Protini™ Powerpeptide Firming Moisturizing. I have been using these together from the very first day.
Also, the brand encourages us to mix the different products and apply these as a single step. As if we were creating a smoothie for our skin.
What can I say about these two Drunk Elephant products?
The serum is a super light texture. I wasn’t expecting this, but given that it should be mixed with the moisturizer, this more lightweight watery texture makes perfect sense.
The moisturizer has a light cream texture that is quickly absorbed by the skin, even if you have combination skin (like I do). But I can tell that my skin remains moist and hydrated for hours.
My skin has never looked better, at least in my adult years. The products are easy to use, and I see a positive impact on my skin.
Now, given the high price point, if you’d like to try some of these products, I would recommend you two things: 1) get a sample from your local store, 2) buy a kit with mini products if you’d like to include these in your skincare routine.
I’ve been using this Sephora Kit for over a month now, and there’s still a lot of product on the containers (at least in the moisturizer one, which I can visually check).
Another tip: Pay attention to the amount of product included in each mini product while shopping online. I purchased a couple more kits from Cult Beauty the other day, and the amount of product is way smaller than the one I’d get while shopping at Sephora.
ColourPop Tinkerbell Fly To Your Heart Super Shock Shadow
I love a sparkly eyeshadow. I am too low-key in so many aspects of my life, but when it comes to eye makeup… I can’t resist a slight hint of bling.
As biodegradable glitter (and shimmer) it’s still far from going mainstream, I tend to be very careful not only on how I use/remove shimmery and glittery eyeshadows. I only buy from cruelty-free (ideally vegan) brands.
That’s the case with ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows. Long-lasting, incredibly unique, cruelty-free, with many vegan options, and affordable.
In April this year, I used ColourPop’s limited edition Tinkerbell Fly to your heart eyeshadow a lot. No, if you’re wondering, I am not a fan of Peter Pan or collabs in general, but this eyeshadow is so beautiful.
I usually wear it all over the lid or if I want a deeper look, I pair it with some matte light or medium pink shade in the outer corner of my eye.
I bought this eyeshadow last year when it came out, and the single eyeshadow is no longer available on ColourPop’s website. However, you can still purchase a kit with the other single eyeshadows.
However, suppose you want a similar formula and are unwilling to spend money on the kit. In that case, you can find incredible options within their permanent line (Ladybug is my all-time favorite).
Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Minimizing Cleansing Clay Mask
An oldie but goodie on my skincare routine. Even though I’ve been using purifying face masks since my early teens, Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Minimizing Cleansing Clay Mask has been my go-to for a few years now.
Despite not being exactly cheap, this one was the first clay mask that hasn’t made my skin feel tight while still properly cleansing my pores.
Given the price tag (20€ for 28 ml and 31€ for 125 ml), I usually purchase mine during Kiehl’s Friends & Family sale as it allows me to get a great deal on the larger format.
While Kiehl’s is in that gray area for being a cruelty-free brand, I still purchase some of their products these days, given their recycling program. You can return your empty packages at any Kiehl’s store and will reuse the plastic to create new ones.
Hopefully, we can refill these at their stores someday. But, for now, and whenever I cannot use a package-free version, I prefer buying from a brand that is so deeply involved in using their post-consumer packages.
