Where can you buy clean beauty products in Lisbon?

Where can you buy clean beauty products in Lisbon?

Cruelty-free, vegan, sustainably sourced ingredients… even though clean beauty products are far from being mainstream, the truth is these are becoming easier to find. Discover where you can purchase clean beauty products in Lisbon (Portugal).

If you’re into sustainable living, you might already know that pretty much every eco-conscious products have a higher price tag. For several reasons: ingredients, formulas, packaging, lower-scale production, distribution, and so on.

Fortunately, you no longer have to blow the bank to purchase a clean beauty product. Given the rising demand, a lot of brands (even mainstream ones) are coming out with more respectful and sustainable formulas. This means more products and lower price tags.

At the moment, it is possible to find clean beauty products at all price points (from low cost to middle range to high-end).

Without any further ado, these are the places where you can purchase clean beauty products if you’re in Lisbon.

Organii

This was the very first store that I’ve ever met that was entirely dedicated to clean beauty, way before I’ve embarked on my sustainable journey.

Organii was created out of pure necessity. Their founders, Cátia and Rita Curica, had sensitive skin prone to allergies. So whenever they traveled, they’ve seized the opportunity to look up new products that could be good for their skin and that weren’t available in Portugal. Most of these products were made with natural, sustainably grown ingredients and free from synthetic ingredients. After seeing the positive impact, they’ve decided to open up a store where these products would be available to everyone.

Mádara, Absolution, Lamazuna, and Kia Charlotta are some of the clean beauty brands you’ll be able to find there. However, if I were you, I would take the chance to try some of the products from Unii - the brand created by Organii’s founders. Like their solid shampoos or natural perfumes.

Sephora

No introduction is needed. In the past year, Sephora has been stepping its game when it comes to clean and conscious formulas.

Whether you opt for buying online or visiting one of their stores, there will be plenty to choose from. Even though it’s still a very small fraction of their actual product portfolio.

RMS Beauty, Respire, Milk Makeup, Tarte, Antipodes, Pai Skincare, Bybi Beauty, Absolution, among many others.

On their website, you’ll be able to find these clean beauty brands broken into the following categories: good for you, good for a better planet, good for vegan, and good for recycling.

Feel free to ask the in-store vendors for further guidance, recommendations, and even to test some of the products on spot.

Mind The Trash

If you’re a regular reader of The Sustainablist, you probably know that Mind The Trash is my all-time favorite online zero-waste store.

Besides the standard sustainable living products that you can find at any zero waste store, Mind The Trash stocks a large array of skincare and makeup products. Like Le Papier, UpCircle, Grums, Sol de Ibiza, among many others.

My favorites? The solid hair care products created by Mind The Trash. These are without a doubt my favorite solid shampoos and they have a relatively large (and interesting) range - given it’s a small brand.

Celeiro

It’s not the first time that I talk about this store here. Celeiro is a health food store like Planet Organic or Whole Foods, only at a smaller scale.

Their beauty aisle has grown exponentially during the last couple of years. This was actually the first place where I ever bought clean beauty products, way before it was a thing or that I was an enthusiast on the matter.

Celeiro stocks brands that you usually find in health food stores. Like Dr. Organic, Cattier, Logona, Sante, Neobio, etc.

While the brand portfolio may not be as Instagram friendly as the previous stores, here you’ll be able to find natural (and certified) products at a more friendly price.

What about makeup? Well, they do have a small stand with clean beauty makeup products, it’s a teeny tiny selection in comparison to their skincare products.

Lush

Whether you’ve tried any of their products or not, I am pretty sure you’ve already heard about LUSH and their naked products.

While this brand has been in the market for ages, with their bath bombs and giant soaps (that you can buy by the slice), it was their solid shampoos that grabbed my attention.

If you’re into cute products, you’ll have a hard time at Lush. Because everything is so adorable and smells so lovely, that you’ll want to buy one of each - I am warning you.

Do you want to get started on naked products? Well, this is the place to start. Naked products are those that don’t come on a standard package. You’re only buying the product/formula itself, and nothing else.

From solid skincare to solid makeup foundations, from solid body lotions to solid shampoos. Here you can find a solid version of everything, entirely handmade with natural ingredients. In the case of makeup, Lush gives you the chance to buy a lipstick case and then all the refills you want - without spending that extra money on packaging.

Do they sell liquid products? Yes, they do. If you opt for these instead of their solid versions, Lush has this recycling program. Where they’ll offer you a face mask if you bring your empty packages back to the store. Cool, isn’t it?

Loja do Zero

Even though it’s the “youngest” of the stores listed here, it has been paving its path and making a positive stand since it was launched.

Loja do Zero was created by a Portuguese sustainable living influencer. Besides all the zero waste staples, this online store has a nice selection of skincare and makeup products.

By Mukk, UpCircle, Korento, Baims, Axiology are some of the brands that you can find at Loja do Zero.

Benamôr

Founded in 1925, this Portuguese skincare brand has been passed from one generation to another. In my case, it felt like a rite of passage: now it’s your turn to use it.

Nowadays, you can find Benamôr products online and at the brand’s flagship stores in Lisbon (there are several locations). Plus, some of their stores, have a refill station. So you can stock up on your goodies while taking care of the environment at the same time - isn’t it.

If you’re not from Lisbon but you’re passing by, please stop by at one of their locations. The stores are beautiful and have their products make the perfect souvenir. For you or someone you love.
