The Best Zero Waste Stores in Madrid

The Best Zero Waste Stores in Madrid

Last update: February 7th 2022

Madrid is a sunny and vibrant city. Full of life and worldwide known for so many reasons: tapas, bars, outstanding museums, and beautiful parks. But it’s also a city preoccupied with the future of the planet and what can be done to reduce its pollution levels.

Here are three places you can’t miss if you want to zero waste shop in Madrid:

Pepita & Grano

Need ingredients for your pantry? Want to start buying these in bulk and not wrapped up with plastic? This is your place.

Pepita & Grano has several locations around town. My favorite one? The one near the Iglesia metro station.

The staff is so kind. They like to engage with their customers and ask them how they are and what they’re going to cook, which always results in a delightful conversation between foodies.

What do I love the most? The wide variety of the ingredients and the possibility of just buying a small amount. Otherwise, I would get my ingredients at the supermarket, use the amount required for a specific recipe and forget about these in the pantry. Only to find out these looking dodgy a few months later.

What do I usually buy? Nuts (almonds, pecans, cashews, Brazil nuts), flours (almond, coconut), seeds, spices, and superfoods (like açaí and matcha).

Ecomania

If you’re looking for zero waste items to reduce your footprint, this is the place!

Ecomania has everything you need and beyond. From the most common products (mesh bags, water bottles, toothbrushes) to the most original (jewelry made out of recycled materials, handmade rugs, etc.). Whatever you need (zero waste-related), you’re probably gonna find it here.

Each product (and brand) displayed was carefully selected. Bearing in mind each brands’ stories, production practices, and environmental impact.

You can also find some ingredients to create your detergents at home. The staff is so kind that they’ll gladly share some tips with you.

Plus, the store is lovely, and you can get a 10% discount by entering the code sustainablist at the checkout.

Unpacked

Unpacked Shop is located in the Salamanca neighborhood, one of the poshest. With a clean look and a lot of natural light, this store offers an array of bulk products and zero waste items.

You’re more than welcome to bring your containers here! And surprise, besides the pantry ingredients, you can also buy detergent, wine, or kombucha in bulk. That’s the dream, right?!

Given its broad product offer, this is a place you can’t miss if you’re living in Madrid and want to give your first steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
