My Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2022

My Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2022

Simple, lighter, and versatile clothes that are easy to mix and match. Here are my Summer Capsule Wardrobe essentials!

Summer is my favorite season. I grew up near the beach, so that explains a lot! Also, after a long winter wearing so many layers of clothes… it feels really good to put on nothing but a light layer of fabric.

When it comes to my Summer Capsule Wardrobe, I try my best to keep it minimal. Many of my Spring Capsule Wardrobe pieces transition to the Summer edition. Whenever I buy something, I focus on: fabric (lightness, freshness, and quality) and wearability (something that it's easy to create a look with and that I'll be wearing regularly).

Without further ado, here are my Summer Capsule Wardrobe essentials for this year:

Sundresses

This is the first thing that comes to mind when I think about the Summer. Light and fresh dresses above the knee - for me, because I am petite.

I like that it’s a piece on its own and that I don’t have to spend time pairing it with anything else.

As I only have a couple of these, I usually leave my sundresses for those hot days - as it’s tough to wear pants.

My favorite sundress is over eight years old and still in excellent condition, even though it comes from a fast-fashion store.

If you’re considering buying a new sundress but want to turn this purchase into an eco-conscious one, here’s my advice: get pre-loved ones (vintage and second-hand stores are packed with gems) or buy a locally-made one.

In either case, always choose quality pieces and timeless designs as you’ll be able to use these for longer.

T-shirts

I am a big fan of t-shirts, to the point that I wear mine on rotation, all year round.

I usually opt for plain and print-free t-shirts with 100% cotton or organic cotton. But I have a soft spot for striped t-shirts (the classic Breton shirt) that immediately add a hint of personality and style to any look.

I used to love a good graphic t-shirt, but at the moment, I prefer to invest in pieces that aren’t less dated.

Even though I choose quality over quantity these days, I’ve had cheap fast-fashion t-shirts that I’ve used for many years.

So, when buying a new t-shirt, pay attention to the materials and ask yourself if you can see yourself wearing it for some time.

Light Denim Jeans

Jeans?! In the Summer?! Yes, I understand why you’re rolling your eyes. I know plenty of fabrics out there more suitable for the Summer, but I am all about a minimalist and versatile wardrobe - so I do my best to avoid these pieces.

Instead, I have two pairs of jeans with lighter and slightly fresher denim that I leave for Summer days (I have a couple of thicker denim jeans for winter). Plus, I can always wear these in the Fall or Spring - with another layer underneath.

The good thing about jeans (which I am so fond of) is that you can wear these on all sorts of occasions. From extremely casual to smart casual.

My favorite brands? Levi’s and Benetton.

As both of these brands aren’t exactly cheap, I usually buy mine at outlet stores or second-hand stores for a fraction of the price.

Tank Tops

Another Summer staple for me. I am not talking about the standard “wife-beater” tank top, but instead of the slighter sexy, updated version.

Luckily, it’s a trend this year. This makes it easier to find this piece everywhere, so you won’t have a hard time finding one. I’ve recently purchased a black tank top from MANGO’s Conscious Line.

Why do I like this piece so much? Besides being fresh and comfortable, I like how it fits around my shoulders. I have broad shoulders, and lately, I struggle with showing my neckline. That’s why this is one of my favorite Summer pieces.

You can easily mix it with jeans, skirts, shorts, and even tailored pieces.

Sandals

I love wearing a good pair of flat sandals on a hot summer day, especially after so many months with my feet inside warm shoes. It’s pretty relieving!

Despite being a Summer staple, I only own two pairs: a Birkenstock-inspired model (made in Portugal) and a more put-together model (made in Spain).

Both pairs are made with leather and have been my Summer companion for many years. The perk of choosing quality over quantity!

If you’re looking for the perfect Summer sandals that are also reliable and eco-conscious… I would recommend you the ones from ALOHAS. They’re incredibly sustainable and produced under demand, so there’s no over-production or waste.

Flip Flops

Another Summer staple for me. Having grown up by the sea and in a sunny city, Flip Flops have been part of my Summer wardrobe for as long as I remember.

Even though it’s pretty easy to find sustainably made Flip Flops, I still wear the pairs I owned before I embraced my eco-conscious path (both from Havaianas). One of these is 12 years old, and, despite wearing it on rotation, it’s still good to go.

But, if you’re looking for a reliable and eco-conscious pair of Flip Flops, I recommend the ones from ECOALF or Hippobloo. If you’re looking for something less eco-conscious in terms of materials that will last you forever, then choose Havaianas instead (they also have a recycling program).

Bomber Jacket

I love a nice Bomber Jacket on a slight chill Summer evening. It’s not too warm or heavy and usually gives you just the comfort you need.

In my case, my bomber jacket is also the most statement piece in my closet. It’s navy blue with printed flowers. I love pairing it with a plain white tee and a pair of navy jeans.

I have had this piece for over five years now. And even though it was purchased at a fast-fashion store (Springfield), it’s still in mint condition.

Plain bomber jackets are pretty easy to find and pair with the items you already have in your closet, so you don’t have to choose a statement piece.
