How to make a face cream at home?

How to make a face cream at home?

If switching to a more sustainable beauty routine is one of your goals, find out how you can make your own face cream at home. More sustainable, natural, eco-friendly and on a budget.

Finding a face cream that suits you can be tricky sometimes. Even more if you want to create a more sustainable and environment friendly routine and have no idea where to start.

Even though there are more eco-friendly and sustainable brands in the market, some of these are hard to find everywhere or pretty expensive. But we have an alternative to that: making your own at home with ingredients you know.

A couple of months ago we’ve attended a workshop from Jump into Freedom on Natural Cosmetics that was really inspiring and eye-opening. So we’ve asked Laura Plasencia, their founder, to share some staple recipes with our readers.

What do you need to create a face moisturiser?

To make a cream you will need these three basic ingredients:

  1. Water (could be replaced by floral water or infusion)

  2. Vegetable oil

  3. Emulsifier

You can enrich the basic formula with essential oils or/and active ingredients. The other element to include is the preservative, as this will extend the life period of our cream.

Keep in mind that you should always choose to have clean and disinfected materials to be used. This will be done using cotton and alcohol 96º.

Ingredients

For Basic Facial Cream (to make 100gr)

75gr water

20gr almond oil

5gr emulsifying wax

Natural preservative

For Facial Cream for Oily Skin

75gr rosemary infusion

20gr jojoba oil

5gr emulsifying wax

10-15 drops lavender and cypress essential oil

Natural preservative

Procedure

1. Boil water and keep it aside.

If making an infusion, place all ingredients and bringing it to boil. Strain and keep it aside.

2. Place the vegetable oil and emulsifying wax in a water bath (Bain Marie).

3. Add the vegetable glycerin to the previously boiled water.

4. Once the ingredients are melted place them into the water.

5. Stir until you get a homogeneous mixture and the texture does not change.

6. Add the vegetable oils, essential oils or active ingredients to be used and stir.

7. The product is ready! (do not forget to check the PH levels and adjust if necessary)

Jump into Freedom is hosting a new Natural Cosmetics Workshop, this time online, where you can learn plenty of other natural (and on a budget) recipes.
