My Autumn Capsule Wardrobe 2023

My Autumn Capsule Wardrobe 2023

Autumn came earlier this year, at least for those living in Spain. Come find out how my Autumn Capsule Wardrobe for 2023 will be, and feel free to get some inspiration for yourself.

Despite liking the Autumn season, I was hoping to soak up the sun for a few more days before sweater weather was here. Wishes aside, it’s time to reunite with some of my beloved pieces and add extra layers.

While most of the pieces you’ll see here have transitioned from last year, I’ve introduced a couple of extra bits. That’s the purpose of having a capsule wardrobe and investing in good-quality timeless clothes.

Even though most of my clothes are from the same brand, I’ve purchased every item mentioned in this article. No sponsorships or collaborations!

Without further ado, here’s my Autumn Capsule Wardrobe for 2023.

T-shirts

Let’s start with my absolute basic: a good old basic T-shirt. I wear mine all year round as a protective layer between my skin and whatever I wear on top - a sweater, a light jumper, a dress, or a shirt.

As my selection ranges from plain to graphic tees, I usually leave the latter for wearing something more opaque on top (like a sweatshirt) - so the design isn’t visible.

Where do I usually get mine? From Levi’s and Sézane, primarily because of the quality of the fabric. I’ve tried 100% cotton t-shirts from brands with a lower price tag, and I could immediately tell the difference. So, I leave these for wearing at home only.

Jeans

I wear jeans all year round, even in the Summer. Why? Because I like the versatility of this piece and how easy it is to create any look with it.

Despite having tried jeans from other brands in the past, at the moment, I only have jeans from Levi’s. I like the cut and their quality. Also, I already know which styles work better for me (it’s their 721 model, by the way).

Where do I usually get mine? Given the price, I usually get my pieces from a local Levi’s outlet store. Or from their website when they have a nice sale going on.

Sweatshirts

OK, these might be the pieces I am most excited to wear, mostly because I have two beautiful sweatshirts I haven’t had the chance to put on as much as I wished: one from Sézane and another from Ami Paris.

The one from Ami Paris was a gift I got for myself during my Summer trip to Barcelona. I had my eye on it for a long time, and it was on sale. It has been hanging in my closet for a few months, waiting for a cold day.

Even though I’ve never really been a sweatshirt kind of person, I find these pretty pieces quite comfortable and perfect for those days when I don’t want to wear anything elaborate. Plus, I work in an advertising agency, where casual looks are not only allowed but also the norm.

Where do I usually get mine? At Sézane and GAP.

Shirts

Yes, there are days I want to look more put together, even if I don’t have to go to the office.

After not wearing a shirt for many years, I discovered the ones from Sézane a year ago, and I’ve made peace with this garment.

The ones from Sézane are quality built, have an incredible fabric, and a timeless design. Despite the price, I see myself wearing these for years to come. Even wholly open and on top of a tank top, for example.

I am sure there are other nice shirts out there. I used to wear the ones from Benetton many years ago, and the quality is quite good.

Light Sweaters

Oh, nothing says “Autumn” like a good wool sweater. I love the coziness and the comfort these bring.

Last year, I invested a lot of money on a few models from Sézane—some with a lighter knit (like the one in the photo) and more warm and cozy.

I plan to wear my marinière sweaters from Sézane and Comptoir des Cotonniers during these Autumn months. Besides the style, these are some of the lighter sweaters I own. And yes, even though they look similar… the striped design is different and makes a big difference for me.

Benetton has incredible and timeless knits if you’re looking for good quality knits at a smaller price tag. Just pay attention to the instructions on how to wash these, as they are pretty sensitive.

Cardigans

This might be my favorite Autumn piece. It used to be the trench coat, but I wore my cardigans so much last year that I got fond of this garment.

Cardigans are so versatile. You can wear these on top of t-shirts or shirts, and even as a sweater.

I usually wear mine on top of a plain white tee, as they were sweaters, with a pair of jeans and sneakers. Cozy!

Despite becoming a cardigan aficionado thanks to & Other StoriesSézane’s cardigans are way better (both in terms of materials and style), and the price tag is quite similar. So, if you’re indecisive, go with Sézane.

Dresses

As I am susceptible to the cold temperatures, Autumn is my last chance of the year to wear a dress.

Even though I am more prone to wear dresses in the summertime, especially since I moved to Madrid, I wear a couple of Autumn dresses every now and then.

An old denim one from Benetton (purchased on a Black Friday many moons ago) and this one from Comptoir des Cotonniers.

I like that it is a very light fabric, yet it gives enough warmth - especially if it’s not chilly.

I’ve enjoyed my experience with Comptoir des Cottoniers dresses that I got two Summer ones (half-price) during the sale season.

Blazers

OK, a Blazer is that elegant and timeless piece that immediately elevates any look. I usually wear mine with jeans and sneakers, as I don’t want to look too formal, but also not too casual.

I bought a plain navy blue blazer from Mango’s Conscious line a few years ago, and it has become a staple of mine during Autumn and Spring.

Last month, while window shopping with a friend, I spotted a checkered discounted blazer at Comptoir des Cotonniers and brought it home with me. Besides the pattern, the color is relatively neutral, and it will look amazing with a plain white t-shirt.

Trench Coat

Oh, I love a good old trench coat. For me, a trench coat is that one piece that always goes in style.

As a trench coat fan, having a Burberry trench coat has always been a dream of mine. It would be something extraordinary and a one-time investment that would last a long time. So, I got one at a local outlet store as a self-birthday gift a couple of years ago.

Despite being an incredibly tailored piece, I’ve never felt it was the right fit. The Sales Assistant recommended a size that was perfect for my shoulders, but that ended up looking a bit big on the torso area as if I was wearing someone else’s coat.

After spending last Autumn and Spring looking at how trench coats looked on other women versus how mine looked on my body, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me.

This Autumn, I will finally put my Burberry trench coat for sale at Vestiaire Collective. This will be my very first experience setting pre-loved clothes.

As a replacement, I’ve already secured this one from Sézane before it becomes sold out. Two sizes smaller than the one I have from Burberry and with a much more elegant fit for my body.

So, here’s my recommendation: invest in a trench coat that makes you look incredible without breaking the bank.

Sneakers

I wear sneakers all year round, even with dresses. Despite working from home most days, I quickly take several thousands of steps when I leave the house.

I am happy that sneakers are broadly accepted these days. Even with dresses!

I always look for pairs that match comfort with style, like the ones from VEJA

During the first half of Autumn, I wear this pair. And on the second half, the one in the picture. Occasionally, when I need to walk longer, I wear an old black pair of Nike running shoes.

Light Scarf

I have a very sensitive throat. So, inevitably, I carry a light scarf in my bag. In case I feel uncomfortable outside or in a space with a heavy A/C.

I prefer graphic light scarves instead of plain ones, mainly to give a touch of personality to a simple look.

Crossbody Leather Bag

I’ve been a fan of crossbody bags for a while now. I love the convenience it brings, as I walk a lot and take a lot of public transportation.

This format allows me to carry my belongings in front of me and have more control.

Plus, on workdays, I also have to carry my laptop backpack with me. So, the crossbody bag is the perfect way of having my most used items with me without stopping and removing my backpack.

This Autumn, I’ll be wearing my A.P.C. Small Grace handbag non-stop. I’ve owned it for almost two years, and it was my best designer purchase.

Occasionally, when running errands or the rain is more intense, I wear my Le Pliage bag from Longchamp. It’s so light and versatile that it’s the perfect companion.

If you’re looking for a crossbody leather bag with a cheaper price point, Sézane has some stunning models this season.
